A Big Thanks To All Those Who Helped

Athina Beckett

Bill Upton has written a full report about the Cosgrove Festival, but I would just like to thank all those people who helped me with the bric-a-brac stall and the lock-wheeling that weekend.

First of all thanks to Chris, whose idea it was to do a lock-wheeling weekend and who worked tirelessly over the weekend, and to our 'bucket' lady Ros's daughter who made everyone pay up including Steve Miles on his trip boat!

Also a big thanks must go to all those who helped out at the IWA festival at Milton Keynes: to Bill and Sarah who helped set up the stall with me; to Ros and family who helped on Friday; Don and Jill who helped Saturday morning; Bill and Sarah again on Sunday and Bill again with Peter on Monday. Then there was the afternoon shift: particular thanks must go to Pam, who worked all four afternoons with the help of Vasty the dog, and to Helen who helped most days. Then there were the people who helped pack the stall away, Jonathan and Tony and of course all our friends from BITM WRG who shared the space with us.

I believe there were about 25,000 people who attended the Milton Keynes festival and there was a lot of interest expressed by the general public about the work of the Buckingham Canal Society and several people became members over the weekend: also four people volunteered to help out with the work parties. Altogether a very successful weekend!
