Crick Boat Show - Jubilee Weekend

Diana Collins

Narrow boats Westmead and Bonnie lassie set off from Milton Keynes fully laden with display boards, bric-a brac and canal ware painted by Jackie Collyer. On the way we stopped at Cosgrove Wharf to collect the jars of "Iolly pops" for the game on the BCS stand at the Crick show.

Friday afternoon, with the help of Tony, Jonathan and myself we set up our stand finishing around 6 o'clock as our boat was taking part in the Canal & Inland Waterways sponsored "try a boat" we were lucky enough to have a berth in the marina so it was back to the boat for a well earned rest before sampling the delights of the beer tent.

Our weekend stand helpers were Athina Beckett, Bill Upton, Jonathan Brown, Peter Breen, Helen Calvert and Pam Forrest with little dog Vastey. A big thanks to all of them: our stand made £l4l.l5 in total. The weather was kind to us Saturday and Sunday, sunny and warm with most people in shorts and tee-shirts. Monday was a colder day with some rain at times.

Tuesday saw Westmead, now crewed by daughter Tina and Husband David together with Bonnie Lassie on their way home to Milton Keynes, not quite so laden this time because we loaded most of the bits on our car Monday night after taking down the stand - the poor car has never carried such a load. The two boats and crew had nearly four hours wait at Watford flight before being able to continue their rather wet and windy journey home and then on to the Three Locks at Soulbury for the IWA's lock wheeling weekend. "But that is another story".

Just a thought, could we apply for a carrier's licence for all the goods we both took on the boats?
