The work at Buckingham is going well. We have now cleared all the large tree stumps dug up for us by Farmer Nick Hawes's man Martin and his excavator down to the lock coffage, but unfortunately because of the wet weather the grass and stinging nettles have gone mad, so there is now a large strimming job needed to clear the canal bed again. Jonathan Brown who lives in Buckingham and works shifts has volunteered to do some extra hours strimming in between work parties to help us out and if anyone else could help please contact me. Once the strimming is finished there will be a few small tree stumps to remove and we also get a chance to try out our brand new Tirfor winch. Then the canal bed will have been cleared, so on to the next stage which is to rebuild the spillweir, hence the title of this article - bricklayers needed! Nick Hawes has started the ball rolling by having the concrete footings laid in the spillweir but we shall need volunteers to help with the bricklaying. So if there is anybody who does have experience in this type of work and is willing to help train others I would be very pleased to hear from them and of course if anyone would like to learn new skills and try bricklaying, again please contact me. Once the spillweir has been rebuilt we shall be well on our way to re-watering this section of canal. Again a big thanks goes to all of you who have attended our work parties on Sundays and Wednesdays and I hope to see as many of you as possible on our next work parties between July and September in Buckingham.
