Second Annual Cowper & Newton Day

WILLIAM COWPER AND JOHN NEWTON
Co-Authors of the Famous Olney Hymns

The Second Annual Cowper and Newton Day will be held on Saturday 27th April, 2002

Olney Hymns, co-authored by William Cowper (1732 - 1800) and John Newton (1725 - 1807), was first published in 1779.

The Cowper and Newton Museum has arranged a full and varied programme of events on the theme of this unique collaborative work - and the friendship between its authors - to take place in Olney, Buckinghamshire, on the 27th April, 2002.

The day will commence with two talks by distinguished scholars on the theology of the Hymns and their place in the history of the English hymn.

Later, there will be a guided walk around Olney Parish Church, followed by a Concert in the Church where the programme will include many of the Olney Hymns, together with other music of the period.

This will be followed by a session in the Museum entitled 'My Favourite Hymn', where participants will have the opportunity to introduce, read and discuss the hymns or other relevant items.

Finally, there will be a reception and dinner with a guest speaker.
