Jane’s second year as “Miss Castlethorpe”

Jane Bavington - Queen - surrounded by her attendants.

The Village Hall Committee was backed by almost every other organisation in Castlethorpe for their annual fete at Castlethorpe Lodge last Saturday.
Following the crowning of 18-year-old Jane Bavington as “Miss Castlethorpe” there was a fancy dress parade through the village and on to the Lodge. Here the fete was opened by the Chairman of Winslow Rural District Council. Coun. C. H. Melville.
Mr. A. J. Cowley explained that the hall was self-supporting, but they organised the fete to supplement hire charges. Running costs had increased as well as their electric light bills and rates.
Jane Bavington who is secretary of the Village Hall Committee was crowned by last year’s title-holder Linda Nicholls. It was the second win for Jane, who was “Miss Castlethorpe” in 1962.
Stalls were run by the WVS. British Legion branch and women’s section, Women’s Institute, Record Club and football and cricket clubs.
