Castlethorpe’s fete brings in £90

Castlethorpe’s annual fete last Saturday raised £90 for the Village Hall Fund.
Held in the grounds of Home Farm, the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. Stacey, the fete attracted a large number of visitors.
The fete was opened by Mrs. Craig of Hanslope, whose husband Mr. Charles Craig, is a well known opera singer, Mr. Craig is at present “on tour” in Scotland.
Wendy Tipple this year’s “Miss Castlethorpe”, presented her with a bouquet, and Mrs. Craig gave Wendy and her attendants small gifts.

Fancy dress

There was a good entry for the fancy dress competition, which was judged by Mrs. Craig, Mrs. Stacey, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Denning of Bedford, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Earthy, of Great Horwood.
The prize for the most original entry went to Teresa Dewick for her “Join the Common Market”.
Prizes in the three classes were awarded to: Up to seven, Julie Abrey, Adrian Pile, Kim Wesley.
7-12 years: Gillian Pile, Rosemary Cooper, Andrew Webster.
Over 12: Pauline Webster, Rosemary Marks, Ian Markham and Yvonne Smith.
In addition to the many stalls and sideshows arranged and run by organisations in the village, there was a display of archery by Stoke Mandeville patients.
Children from the village school gave a display of country dancing, organised by the headmaster, Mr. Parish, and Miss Alice Eakins.
Members of the Wolverton BR and Town Band played during the afternoon.
Before the fete was opened the new Queen, Wendy Tipple was crowned by last year’s Queen Jane Bavington. Jane is secretary of the village Hall Committee and was one of the fete organisers.
Mr. Arthur Cowley, who has recently resigned as chairman of the committee, acted as compere during the opening ceremony, and Mr. N. West was the marshal for the parade by the queen and her attendants before the fete.
