Castlethorpe Open Gardens Weekend 2009
11th & 12th July 11am - 4pm

Village Hall c.1910

School c.1895

Church - Flower Festival

Welcome to the first ever Castlethorpe Open Gardens event. We have 17 gardens, the allotments, the school and the village hall gardens open also the Flower Festival in the Church. Not bad for our first ever one of what we all hope will be a bi-annual event. All we really need now is some good weather for you to be able to enjoy the gardens to their full extent.

As you walk around the village to the gardens watch out for our Scarecrow Heritage Trail. Strategically placed around the village you will find a Norman, a Viking, a lace maker, a wedding, a Victorian school mistress, a navvy, a miller and a christening to name but a few. We are looking for your help to judge which is the best one as there is a small prize at stake.

Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled on the day for some characters of yesteryear including PC Mick Shaw, as our very own village bobby of once a little while ago. The characters will also be in strategic places on the day to point visitors in the right direction and to chat about various places in the village. Watch out at the school as our own Victorian school mistress will be cracking the cane once again!

The money raised from this event will be going to the village hall to help with the refurbishment but each individual garden owner may well have their own small stall for their favourite charity so lots of others will benefit.

While you are here please don’t forget to pop into the Church and take a look at the Flower Festival before finally making your way to the village hall for a Ploughmans lunch or a cream tea.

There is plenty of off road parking provided and a minibus will run from the village hall to the Mill for those who do not wish to make the walk.
