75th Cub Scouting Birthday 1916 to 1991
During this week Cub Scout Packs had been challenged to celebrate 75 years of Cub Scouting by having a Party and Flying the Flag in an unusual place. The Leaders had made plans to celebrate the occasion by having a Pack Night with lots of fun for the Cub Scouts.
After Grand Howl and Inspection Akela told the lads what life was like in 1916 when Cub Scouting started and many boys had since been privileged to be Cubs in the next 75 years. The Pack made their way outside to fly the flag that had been specially made for the day. A large balloon on fishing line had been obtained from a lady in the village and after photographs the balloon was released. Unfortunately ‘lift off’ was not achieved, owing to the weight of the flag, only about 5 feet was ever forthcoming. We were all disappointed but not disheartened as we had done our best.
We then had many games based on 75 and our disappointment soon vanished with the fun these games provided. A Six Relay transferring water, Ball catching, Leap-Frogging, Standing on Head, Skipping, Bouncing tennis ball on racket and throwing balls in buckets made for lots of laughter and enjoyment. Retrieving the Flag and Balloon we returned to the Headquarters to continue the fun.
Talking for 75 secs, Singing Songs, Blowing Bubbles and two eating competitions using baked bean and cream crackers really brought the Party to a hilarious conclusion.
After Grand Howl we assembled the Pack around a splendid birthday cake made by Mrs. Leathersich so that Mr. Monk could record the occasion with some photographs. The excellent cake was soon demolished and the Pack went home after a Pack night to remember 75 years of Cub Scouting.
