Football Match v 13th St. Mary’s, Far Cotton, Northampton

We met at 2.0 p.m. at the Headquarters in uniform to change into football kit. We then walked to the School football pitch for the match. Mr. D. Shepherd had kindly given permission to use the school pitch.
Our opponents had only 6 cubs so Bagheera arranged for 5 of our cubs to play for them, swapping our players at half-time so all of our cubs played for 1st Hanslope at some stage of the match.
We kicked up the slope in the 1st half and thanks to determined play and 2 goals by J. Scibilia and 1 from J. Monk we reached half time 3 goals to nil in the lead.
After consuming orange slices given out by Baloo we started the second half in a confident mood. J. Scibilia scored to give him a hat-trick making the score 4 – 0. However 13th St. Mary’s came back to score a goal but then J. Monk scored to make the final result of 5 – 1 convincing.
We returned to the Headquarters for tea and cakes in high spirits. Thanks to sporting opponents and vocal support from cubs' parents we had all enjoyed a fine afternoon’s football.
