1st HANSLOPE SCOUT GROUP

Thursday June 27th 1985

Visit to 1st Roade Cub Scout Pack, Northants.

We assembled at 5.45 p.m. to collect subs and departed to Roade at 6.0 p.m. We were welcomed by the 1st Roade Pack and Leaders.
The Roade Leaders had arranged a game of Rounders using the Roade School playing field, but first we had a Grand Howl together.
Some of the Roade Cub Scouts had not arrived because their normal Pack night ran from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. two of our cub scouts joined the Roade team for the start to even the teams. Akela told one of them that if he scored a rounder or caught one of the 1st Hanslope cubs out he would walk home, this was a joke. This cub hit the ball well and was an easy rounder but he deliberately ran himself out, Bagheera asked him what was he doing, to which the reply was ‘I don’t want to walk home’.
The Roade team batted well exploiting the fact that if the ball was hit over a classroom into the playground an easy rounder was accomplished. It must be said however our fielding was poor and next time we must take buckets and have trouser pockets sewn up.
Hanslope then battled to try to score more than Roade’s 10 rounders but despite a left hander’s attempt to abandon the game by hitting two rounders over a fence, which Baloo and Myles retrieved, (whose side were they on?), we never reached the target.
We all agreed the game was lots of fun and meeting our cub scout friends from 1st Roade was very enjoyable.
We arrived back at the Headquarters at 7.45 p.m. where we had Grand Howl.
