Pack Visit to Meet the Mayor of Milton Keynes Mr. B. Tapp

After a shortened Pack Meeting we left the Headquarters at 6.30p.m. to travel to the Milton Keynes Borough Council Offices. We were directed to the Mayor’s Parlour where we were greeted by the Mayor, Mr. B. Tapp.

He was delighted to see the 1st Hanslope Cub Scout Pack and explained his function as head of the Borough. The Cub Scouts were very interested in his Chain of Office and he answered many questions on this valuable item. He then explained how the Council ran its affairs and the many visitors he received who wanted to see the fast growing Town of Milton Keynes.

The Mayor then took us on a short tour of the Committee Rooms and then into the Council Chamber. We all made ourselves comfortable around the splendid room with Brendan acting as Deputy Mayor and Tait as Chief Executive. The general idea on how the Council conducted their meetings was explained to the party. Akela thought the gavel was a good idea to stop people talking and Baloo was instructed to see if the Scout Shop stocked such an item.

We all returned to the Mayor’s Parlour for light refreshments and for Akela to receive a gift of our visit from the Mayor. Having thanked the Mayor for a really interesting visit we returned to the Car Park for a Grand Howl.

We returned to the Headquarters at 7.50p.m. feeling very pleased that we had met the mayor of Milton Keynes in his Parlour.
