Waymarking at Castlethorpe

Sunday Oct 25th 1987

Hanslope Parish

Met at 9.15a.m. Headquarters on a sunny morning. We proceeded to way mark Footpaths numbered 22 and 21 on Mr. Branson’s and Mr. M. Beasley’s land until we reached Bullington End. Having noted where posts were required to improve the way marking we walked towards Hanslope Park. We then way marked footpath number 3 until we reached Bridleway Number 51. Having completed the morning’s project we made our way homeward on previously marked footpaths 49 and 6 noting any improvements we could make when posts are available in November. Reaching Newport Road in Hanslope we made the draw to find out which Cub Scout, Scout and Father would accompany to the Bucks Village Venture Competition Presentation night on Friday Oct 30th.

Lee McDonald, Brett Coles and Mr. McDonald were the successful winners and would represent the Scout Group in their quest for a high position in the Competition.

Castlethorpe Parish

Met at 9.30a.m. at the Carrington Arms Castlethorpe and proceeded to mark footpaths to the south of the village bordering the parish boundary alongside the River Tove and back into the village. The lads found enjoyment along the walk, observing anglers in competition along the river, speeding trains and an old sandpit in the process of being reclaimed. After suitable refreshment at the Carrington Arms we returned to Hanslope satisfied on the progress made on the first walk in Castlethorpe Parish.

Met at 9.30a.m. at the Carrington Arms Castlethorpe on a cold but dry morning.

We marked the footpath from the Village Hall to the Parish Boundary to connect up with Footpath No. 2 in Hanslope Parish. We then marked the Bridleway to the main road and marking footpaths where possible made our way to Mr. Frost’s Farm, Milford Leys. We then walked along the Mill Race to Castlethorpe Mill where Mr. & Mrs. Young invited the Pack for a visit in the Spring to view articles preserved from the old working Mill. Having walked along the Tove to the waterfall and back into the village erecting signs where required we took refreshment at the Carrington Arms to recover from a long but rewarding morning’s walk.
