1st HANSLOPE

Senior Citizens Xmas Party

Friday Dec 11th 1987

During the proceeding weeks 61 people had been invited, including all of our last year’s guests, by Leaders escorting the cub scouts to personally invite our friends.

The Scout Group Council organised the transport and refreshments as well as paying all the expenses incurred.

The Pack received their guests for 7.30p.m., taking coats and escorting the visitors to their seats. Whilst the Cub Scouts chatted to the guests Mr. Hill provided suitable music.

Akela opened the Party by welcoming the guests and hoping they would all have a good time at the third such Party organised by the Cub Scout Pack. The Party opened with three games of Beetle instead of the usual Bingo. Great fun was had by all with the Cub Scouts helping the guests try to be first to win a Voucher from R. Tompkins.

During the serving of refreshments by the Pack the raffle for three prizes took place, the guests having received one raffle ticket each on entering the H.Q.

Six younger Scouts then performed a very funny Shadow Play entitled ‘An incident at Camp’. This event had been directed by Mr. Trevor Stanton - Scout Instructor over the previous weeks and the effort put into the Play certainly shone through and was very well received by the audience.

Some of the Cub Scouts had been rehearsing with Mrs. Leathersich and Mrs. McDonald over the previous weeks to perform their version of ‘Old Akela had a Farm’. The performance was of a very high standard and much laughter ensued from the audience due to the very comic lines from the splendid act.

The Pack then formed into a choir whilst Akela invited the whole audience to sing carols accompanied by Mr. Hill electric organ. The carols brought a very successful and happy evening, both for our guests and the Pack, to a close.

Akela thanked all concerned for a wonderful evening and invited the guests to partake in a glass of sherry and a mince pie before making their way home.

Thank you messages for the Senior Citizens Xmas Party
Dear Sir

Will you please convey our thanks to the 1st Hanslope Scout Troop, for the entertainment which we were priviledged to enjoy on Friday night.

It was obvious that a lot of hard work had previously been put into it but it proved to be well worth while. Thank you also for the organ music played by Mr. Hill and not forgetting our lady escort who conveyed us safely home on such a foggy night.

Yours Sincerely
Mr & Mrs. Jubb
