Chief Scout’s Visit to the Quarries Camp Site

Both the Pack and Troop assembled at 12.30 p.m. for transport by Leaders and parents to the District Camp Site. This event was to be a special occasion at the Quarries Camp Site because the Chief Scout Garth Morrison was to open the new Milton Keynes Scout Centre.

Considerable improvements had been made to the site to commemorate 60 years of the Quarries facility for the Milton Keynes Scouts.

After arrival the Pack set forth to plant 12 conifers the Scout Council had purchased as the 1st Hanslope’s contribution to the Camp Site improvements. During the work photographs were taken by other Scouters visiting the event. Having completed our work and tidied up we took up our positions with the Troop along the route the Chief Scout would take on arrival.

In turn the Pack and Troop were visited by the Chief Scout, his wife and the County Commissioner. The instructions were to gather around the building area to witness the official opening but because of the wait the lads became bored so a decision was made to mix the Cub Scouts and Scouts into teams to play two wide games. After hectic games of Stalking and Siege of the Fort we made our way to the shop so that the lads could purchase souvenirs.

We arrived back at Hanslope at approx 4.45 p.m. after an afternoon to remember in wonderful weather.
