This was Castlethorpe's first league game for nearly 20 years and they hoped for a successful start. Unfortunately their goalkeeper, N. West, was unfit at the last moment and this rather disorganised the team. Olney started in great style and were three up in the first 20 minutes. Castlethorpe fought back and L. Ray scored from a penalty to make the visitors down 4-1 at the interval. Castlethorpe had more of the second-half play and went close on several occasions. T. Hope and H. West scored for them, but olney were able to add to thier lead. The visitors tried hard to draw lebel in the last stages but the home defence held out strongly.
