CASTLETHORPE v. STOKE GOLDINGTON
On Saturday last Stoke Goldington were the visitors at Castlethorpe, and after an exciting game retired winners by 2 goal to 1.
Stoke Goldington: W. West, F. Bottrell, J. Walker, W. Darby, A. Green, L. Warren, A. Whiting, G. Kilpin, F. keeves, F. Bland, W. Geen.
Castlethorpe: J. Panter, F. Powell, T. Herbert, A. Lowe, A. Bavington, J. Taylor, C. Watts, W. Lansberry, F. Kerridge, W. Manning, A. Bavington.
Play in the first half was rather scrambling, owing to the wet ground. After ten minutes’ play the visitors scored through Kilpin. The homesters now played better football, and after 30 minutes’ play the visiting goalie failed to gather the ball from a free kick taken by Herbert, and Lansberry scored. A few minutes later Taylor, in trying to clear, put through his own goal. The visitors had most of the play until half-time. Stoke Goldington 2; Castlethorpe 1.
In the second half, each goalkeeper was called upon several times, but no further scoring took place, play being for the most part in mid-field. Throughout the game the visitors’ left wing were always a trouble to the home defence, for whom Herbert played well.
Bavington and Green the respective centre halves, both showed good form. The visitors, by their dashing tactics, outplayed the home team, and deserved their success.
Stoke Goldington 2 Castlethorpe 1.
The losers on Saturday next entertains Newport Unity, when a good game is expected.
