Properties marked in Brown within the Red boundry line of the conservation area are all included in the schedule 4 (2) directive. This directive means that the houses are considered to be of significant historic interest and that all alterations, however minor must have planning consent. Applications for planning consent under these rules are free to the occupier or owner of the property. The idea being to stop unsympathetic alterations, such as plastic windows and
doors, and the removal of chimneys, for example.
In this way the local authority hope to enhance  the historic character of the area. As an aside consequence the value of  property in the conservation area should increase in value as sympethtic renovations are undertaken and the property becomes more sought after.
