Bump!
There must be folk on here who lived in Hanslope in the `fifties? Most of my friends and aquaintances of those times were from families who had lived there for several generations.
Before the council estate was built next to green lane at the begining of the `fifties, Hanslope had decreased in population/size. adjacent to Stocking Green Farm's northern side were a lane flanked by cottages of unknown number that had long disapeared by the outbreak of the war. There may have been more cottages around the Green end farm and lane that had also gone. The houses at the school end of Green Lane are built over four surviving cottages, the first two of which were still occupied in my day, the other end two used for outbuildings, I remember helping in the slaughter of a sow in the end one (payment in pieces of gammon!). There may have been even more dwellings near the long gone `big house' (Stoke Manor) where the tunnels are thought to have lead. The council housing that stands oposite the newer estate was built before the war in the early thirties.
If anyone wants to add too or clarify my post please do. For many of us, this is a story of an England that is fast disapearing!!
