I have found the Hanslope site totally fascintating ! I was born in Yardley Gobion and lived in Hanslope for a short time before my mother - Madeline Sherwood nee Ratledge - died. I am very interested in any information I can find about my family and would welcome any replies of that nature. I remember my parents running a small shop that is now somebody's home and I can also remember loitering around Hanslope with friends and my brother - I seem to remember an old bomb-site !? My grandfather lived opposite the church and my Mother is buried there although, sadly, we have been unable to locate the exact position of her grave. As my brother and I were subsequently adopted, all information, anecdotal or otherwise is of great interest and so I hope that I will get some response to this thread and thank you in anticipation...

Hi Sarah,
What years were you in Hanslope? Sherwood(s) rings a bell Have you any names for your old friends in Hanslope? Which school did you attend? We lived at 48 Halfway houses, Longstreet road from 1945 untill 1953.

Hi - I lived in Hanslope from 1965 - 1968 and I can't really remember any names as such - I was very young, but my Grandfather was Harry Sherwood and his wife was Emma. They had several children ( Dorothy, Charles, Brian, Kitty and Patricia) so if any of those names ring a bell, I'd love to hear more. Thanks for your response.

Aha, '65, I remember it well. Unfortunately We left Hanslope a decade before then and I was living in Malaysia, Pat Sherwood, hmmmmm! A long time ago and you're not that old if you were `very young' in 65!
Right, on this site, go to person search, just fill in the surname box and then search. below is just ONE entry! there are also images in there. Be a little curcumspect about believing quoted dates this databaes has some errors.

Name Inscription
William Sherwood Headstone:

In loving memory of Emma Sherwood Died April 24th 1962 aged 64 years

Also her husband Harry Sherwood Died November 9th 1972 aged 79 years

And their daughter Kitty Snaith Died March 28th 1968 aged 38 years

"Reunited"

William Sherwood Died September 21st 1974 aged 42 years

Records 1 to 1 of 1

I hope I've been helpfull, I can also be contacted on virgoprestige@yahoo.co.uk
regards

Hi Sarah
I can remember your Mum & Dad having a newsagent shop(the old cobbler shop) in the village of Hanslope, I was one of the girls who used to deliver the papers for 50p a week. I can remember your Mum's death, it was so sad. I believe your Mum's grave is not far away from the main gate, the first row, I'm afraid there is no headstone. Trying contacting the vicar for a burial plot no, it may help to pin point a more definite spot.

Thank you for those replies - it's good to know that there are still people around who remember my parents - I did meet up with Pat some years ago but I'm not sure if she's still with us. I'd love to hear anything you can remember about my mother - Madeline - I haven't been able to contact any of her family and I'd like to know what sort of person she was - what she looked like etc - I have one or two photos but it's not the same as a personal memory. I think I met Nancy at Pat's house and Charles (?) They talked about Kit as she died just weeks before my Mother - they said they thought I took after her. love to hear from you again. Many thanks. Sarah

Hello ,
I am Bill Sherwoods daughter ...
I was born in Wolverton and moved to Yardley Gobian when i was too young to remember however i do remember visiting my Auntie Nancy and Uncle Ben at the post office they ran when i was about 3 and also attending a party for "cousin Charlies 21st" in about 1973/74 ?!
I recently visited Hanslope to see where my dad was buried as i had not been before ...I heard some wonderful local stories about Grandad Harry ,Grandma Emma ,"Big Bill" and all the rest of the family ...
I also have a photo of my Dad in the band and obviously more of him whilst he was alive.
I know Uncle Charlie is still around and living in Castlethorpe as is Auntie Patricia i am hoping sometime soon to try and get to see them and can't wait to hear all the stories they have to tell about the family as i lost contatct with them all around the time my dad died in 1974 ...
unfortunately i don't have any contact details for Uncle Charlie or Auntie Pat i would be grateful if anyone could help me with this so i could contact them ...
hope to hear from someone soon
~Emma~
