Firstly, may I say how much I appreciate the wealth of information available on the Hdhs website?

I had been researching My 4th Great Grandfather, The Rev Moses Agar 1715-1783, and had come up against a brick wall, until I discovered the Hdhs site.

Moses was Vicar at “St James the Great” 1749 till his death in 1783.
The Cambridge University Alumni states he entered Pembroke College in 1736; matriculated 1739/40 and was ordained Deacon at Lincoln 1740/1.
Ordained as Priest, 1743 at Buckden Hunts.
Unfortunately the University archives have no details as to his personal life.

Moses was a Widower when he married Elizabeth Carter of Hanslope in 1754.

I know I am pushing my luck, but wondered if there are any personal records available within the church or Hdhs archives.
Specifically, I am trying to find out who Moses Agars first wife was. Whether she moved to Hanslope with him, or had died prior to him being appointed Vicar?

The only marriage record I have found, is on the Family search site .

If this is Moses record, he would only have been 19 years old at the time of the marriage and still attending University. Given that there were other Moses Agars in London, it could equally belong to one of them.

Unfortunately this record does not show Moses fathers name.

I believe his father was Moses Agar of Canterbury, Kent, and his mother Elizabeth Fendall, also of Kent.


I was also wondering if there are any photographs available, of the inscriptions on the Church Chancel floor, Where both Moses and Elizabeth are buried.
