I am researching the Cook family who appeared to have quite a presence in Hanslope throughout the 1700's and 1800's and have tracked the family tree back to around 1700, but am looking for clues and help in going back further, having seen Cooks listed in the registers back to the 1500s. My research has also taken me to Hartwell which is in Northamptonshire so have been struggling on finding more records. The Hanlsope and Districy web site has been great in my research but I have now stalled. If anyone can offer any help or clues it would really be appreciated.

Hi
Richard Cook is my 4th Great Grandfather. I have a family tree of Cooks and relative/descendants of about 700 people, so if any one can help expand it I would welcome assistance

Hi Shirley

Yes, I am back a further 2 generations - I have Henry's father as a John Cook, who married Ann Green in 1768. John's father, as far as I can ascertain is a Thomas Cook (from Hartwell) who was married to a Mary (surname unknown). I am now stuck at this point on the Cook's and would welcome any help to get back further. I have traced Ann Green back a further two generations (Ann being my 6th Great Grandmother). I have also traced Elizabeth Tame back through some earlier generations. I do have over 700 names within the Cook family tree if you would be interested in it.

Thanks for this I also had John and ann Green as probable parents Nice to know someone else is thinking on same lines Not sure how to contact you to find out more bout the Tame Family I have Eliz parents as Wm and Eliz Fern and Wms mother as Sarah (Wm was illegitimate so no father) Do you agree with that. My grandfather was Frederick William Cook The only picture I have of him is in the Veterans Picture I sent to the website which they have now downloaded.

I believe that I am descended from Richard Cook , through his daughter Eliza b1833 . She married Thomas Jelley in Cosgrove. Their grand-daughter Irene Jelley married George Ruff b1900 who was brought up at Woad Farm in Hanslope . Irene and George Ruff were my grandparents so Eliza would be my great great grandmother.
The tenancy of the Woad Farm was shared between James Ruff and his sister Clara by 1911. Clara had been married to Robert Cook (in later life) who was Eliza's brother. In the 1901 census Clara and Robert lived at Woad Farm and James Ruff , who was a widower with 5 children must have moved from Olney and taken on the tenancy with Clara after Robert died . I had visited Woad Farm in the 1960s and the Ruffs still lived there then but left early 1970s. I think the man in the picture of the Woad Farm on this site is George but it may possibly be his brother Tom Ruff who eventually took on Woad Farm when James died in the 1940s.

Julie

I have just noticed your reply. It would appear then we are distant cousins. If my research is correct would your mother have been Peggy - daughter of Irene and George?
