Our Community was founded on 7th December, 1989, with a church service officiated by Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira & Gt Britain. At first the services were taking place occasionally on Sundays at 12 noon but eventually were established at 11.30 on the last Sunday of each month. Christmas, Epiphany, Salutations to Our Lady, Palm Sunday, Holy week, Easter, the Dormition of St Mary are also celebrated.

The congregation is composed of persons from all walks of life and many parts of the world giving this community a rich insight into its members’ background and traditions.

As part of the Community a Greek school was established and after changing from one venue to another has found hospitality in Lord Grey school in Bletchley. It is held every Thursday evening during term times from 17.00 to 20.30. Qualified teachers are provided by the Education Ministries of Greece and Cyprus through their representative offices in London. It provides education in Greek language and culture to pupils aged 5 to 18 and to adults who are members of or are connected to our Community. We have a close working relationship/co-operation with teachers, pupils and parents.

We often organise events, outings and Greek evenings as we try to cover as many aspects and needs as possible to keep traditions, language and religion alive.

Another integral part of the Community is the Ladies’ auxiliary organisation through which visits to the sick, those in prison and others are arranged.

Since the beginning services have taken place and continue to do so in St. Martin’s Church, Aylesbury Street, Fenny Stratford. As Milton Keynes continues to expand, we are conscious of the need to obtain our own building in which to house our various activities
