Replacing the thatch with tiles.
The new tiles are in 1 Church End, with he thatch on 12 Market Square about to be removed. The entrance door opens directly into this kitchen, which opens into the adjacent parlour in the unheated NE bay.

The two windows on the left belong to 12 Market Square. The building set back on the right edge of the photograph is a modern extension.

Maps show different footprint of buildings on this site over time.

On the 1779 map, 1 Church End is numbered 673, described as 'A Homestead and Tenement adjoining at Church End' .. .. 13 perch (less than 0.02 acres), and owned by Thomas Biliing.  This appears to be the same Thomas Billing who died in 1810 and was recorded in his will as a publican.

On the 1818 map 1 Church End is numbered 418, described as 'Public House, Tenement etc.' .. .. 16 perch, and owned by Thomas Biliing (there seem to have been at least three generations with the same name).
