What's New in July 2004

A Master Index has been added. This is a comprehensive index of all references to persons anywhere in the database. For instance, the master index includes entries for the fathers of bride and groom as well as witnesses to marriages. To locate information about an individual, it is now possible to search this master index. From the search results, the underlying census, marriage and other data can be accessed.

Data from the Church Register of Marriages for the years 1837 to 1929 has been added. Marriage data is now available for the years 1785 to 1929. Searches based on the marriage data now make it much easier to trace the maiden names of married women.

The July update of the Census Data includes minor corrections. In addition, the page numbers of the original census returns have been added (except for the 1851 census), which should make it easier to locate the relevant pages on the microfilm copies in libraries.

A start has been made adding references to Hanslope people from other sources. This includes the following:

a 1779 survey of householders in the village

The Posse Comitatus, a list of Hanslope men between the ages of 15 and 60 in 1798

a list of people from Hanslope "desirous" of emigrating to Canada in 1844

a list of freeholders who voted in the 1784 and 1831 elections.
It is hoped to add data from other elections in future updates.

The people referred to in these sources are also included in the master index.

In January searches on the detailed pages were modified to search for other references to an individual using common alternative spellings of names. For instance, a detailed page on Celina Abbot will locate references to Selina Abbott. This should result in a more complete search for references to an individual.
