3. The Village Pond

The Village Pond, just at the end of the Village Green, used to play an important part in village life. It sems very peaceful now with ducks swimming on its surface, but it becomes a focal point of great interest every spring when the new ducklings hatch. In 2000 there were 14, all of whom survived.

The pond is only fed by surface and rainwater - there is no spring. In very dry summers it can dry out, and the residents nearby then work hard to reduce the plant growth, restore the edges and strengthen the island, so that it all looks beautiful again when the rain comes.
