5. The Village Hall

The village Hall was very familiar to older residents - it used to be a school, known as Top School.


"Punishment was the cane. If the boys were too bad the Headmaster would stick their head between his legs and tan their bottoms. There was one boy when the Headmaster put his head between his legs he bit the Headmaster."


The trail turns back towards the Old Forge and turns right past some cottages and houses and the Gold Street Gospel Hall, photographed below, which shows its date of building as 1809.
