6. The Butcher's

The village butcher's shop sells meat and vegetables, and is a good place to meet up with friends and family for a good gossip. It is also the setting for some knowledgeable discussion on horse and dog racing, particularly when there is a big race day or .racing nearby at Towcester.

Many villagers remember when animals were slaughtered on the premises, in the buildings round the back of the shop. There was also stabling there - the great Grand National winner Red Rum who won that race an unequalled three times is known to have spent the night there. He was taken for a walk round the village in the evening, and one of his horseshoes was raffled in the Working Mens Club.

The next point on the trail is directly opposite, on the right of the entrance to the Market Square.
