19. The Churchyard

Hanslope churchyard is very large, and is nearly as interesting as the church. A few famous bones are buried beneath its earth, such as Alex McKay who lost the famous barenuckle prizefight in nearby Salcey Forest, and Joseph Knibb the clockmaster whose time ran out in 1701.

A young inhabitant of Church End was at Hanslope Combined School when they originated this trail. "I live next to the Church and I've grown up living with the bells each week. I like living next to the Church because I see lots of weddings but I sometimes see funerals too.

When I see weddings I see Bridesmaids and the Bride in beautiful dresses but the confetti stays there for ages.

The graveyard is very interesting but some graves are quite hard to read. I've lived in Hanslope all my life and I really like my village."
