This year MK Heritage Open Days celebrates the MK Summer of Culture with more activity than ever before. Over 60 events have been put together for the public thanks to our partners, with many specially designed for children and families to enjoy and see our wonderful heritage, maybe for the first time.

The Milton Keynes Collection is a partnership of five museums and heritageorganisations who have joined forces to: • Raise awareness of the rich history of Milton Keynes within and beyond the ‘new’ city;

• Share resources and expertise in areas such as volunteering, collections handling, governance and marketing; and
• Inspire more people to get involved and help to secure this unique heritage for future generations.

From Alan Turing to IF and from MK Games to Lady Godiva, this will be an engaging look at Milton Keynes with family fun activities along the way. Celebrating the history of skateboarding in Milton Keynes at one of the city's premiere skating locations, the Buszy. Known on an international level, with DC Shoes even creating a limited edition skate trainer called "The Buszy", this Heritage Open Days will bring this vibrant past alive with exhibition of photographs, film and cultural artefacts from one of MK's most underground scenes.

Cowper Day is the annual event at the Cowper and Newton Museum where you can celebrate the works of William Cowper and discover a bit more about the world he lived in! This year will be an interesting mix of literary activities and traditional crafts. For the craft activities, the focus will be on textile crafts and will include hand-loom and drop spindle spinning, tablet and loom weaving, felting, knitting and lace - making. There will be drop-in sessions each day so visitors can 'have a go' at the various hand crafts. With readings of Cowper’s poetry and prose throughout the weekend, this popular event looks at the life and works of one of Buckinghamshire best loved writers and gives the visitor an insight into the world in which he lived! Ghost Station is the new exhibition from arts organisation, ArtHertz staged at Bletchley Park - the home of code breaking during World War II. It features works from over 20 selected contemporary artists in a multi media group event interspersed within the existing historical exhibitions on the site. Ghost Station will be open to the public from 7th September 2012 for one month and will also feature a scheduled programme of short film at the Enigma Cinema at Bletchley. Taking place on 9th September 2012 between 1pm – 5pm, this will be the largest Bandstand Marathon to date, a truly national event linking local communities and London 2012.
