This page gives details of the first year of the "Jewels of Milton Keynes" website project. The aim was to feature the star items in the collections of MKHA organisations. Originally, seven MKHA members created their "Jewel" feature. This was never intended to be an exclusive list, and thanks to extra funding, another item has been added. Others will be featured as and when time and funding allow.

Note : The "Jewels" Project, which was originally part of the IT Challenge Fund run by Resource (The Council for Museum, Archives & Libraries) was continued as part of the MK Heritage Gateway Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund throughout 2002.   • 24.04.2001- Milton Keynes Heritage Association site accepted as part of the National Grid for Learning
  • 21.04.2001- Cowper & Newton Museum original site and pages now relocated to MK Heritage site
  • 26.03.2001- Milton Keynes Museum Jewels feature on the Wolverton to Stony Stratford Tram launched
  • 02.03.2001- Two Villages Archive Trust Jewels feature launched, giving a virtual tour of Milton Keynes Village

  • 21.02.2001- Bletchley Park Trust's Jewels pages expanded on 21.02.2001 to include pages on the Women of Bletchley Park and the story of Communications at Bletchley Park - past and present

  • 24.01.2001 - Old Gaol Museum Buckingham Jewels pages launched
  • 16.01.2001 - Stacey Hill Society site launched. 16 MKHA members on-line
  • 11.01.2001 - Shenley Brook End join MKHA. Site already launched. 15 MKHA members on-line
  • 14.12.2001 - Bletchley Park Trust's feature extended to include the story of outstations like Stanmore
  • 07.12.2000 - Two Villages Archive Trust site launched. 14 MKHA members on line. Living Archive Jewels feature first part launched

  • 19.09.2000 - Cowper & Newton Museum's "Jewel" Section launched, telling The Life of William Cowper
  • 14.09.2000 - Hanslope & District Historical Society's Jewel section launched, telling the story of the Hanslope Park Tragedy
  • 13.09.2000 - End of second training course. First Hanslope Society and Cowper & Newton Jewels pages all produced. Bletchley Park jewels pages being expanded. Living Archive pages in production. Hanslope site expanded to include further features on the village including a virtual trail.
  • 10.09.2000 - Sherington Historical Society and Deanshanger Village Heritage Society join MKHA and register for the third training course
  • 07.09.2000 - Milton Keynes Local Studies & Family History Library site launched : 10 MKHA members now on line.
  • 14.07.2000 - First section of the Jewels site launched , with Bletchley Park Trust telling the story of the People of Bletchley Park, including the breaking of the Japanese codes and the setting up of the school to teach Japanese other sections of the Bletchley Park Trust site to follow.
  • 12.07.2000 - Start of second training course.
  • 06.07.2000 - End of first training course. First pages launched for the main sites of Hanslope & District Historical Society and Newport Pagnell Police Museum - 9 MKHA members on-line
  • 09.06.2000 - Single pilot page launched, announcing projected start of site
  • 01.06.2000 - Web space purchased after tendering process. Domain name registered on 6.6.2000
  • 27.04.2000 - Tenders received for second phase of hardware. Orders placed on 8.5.2000 and received by 23.5.2000
  • 25.04.2000 - All places on first training course filled. Course started on 02.05.2000
  • 20.04.2000 - Training plan drawn up by co-ordinator and approved by Steering Committee
  • 03.04.2000 - Initial I.T. hardware and software purchased
  • 31.03.2000 - Four 10-week training courses for web site production scheduled and all MKHA members informed
  • 27.03.2000 - Project Co-ordinator appointed and in post
  • 07.01.2000 - Project bid to I.T. Challenge Fund accepted by the Council for Museums, Archives & Libraries
