Our Sporting Life Milton Keynes exhibition

Stadium MK Britain’s Olympic Year gets off to an inspiring start this month with the opening of a special exhibition celebrating Milton Keynes' contribution to the nation's sporting life leading towards the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Alongside those athletic greats who have helped put MK on the sporting map the show features memorabilia, stories and film from the local people, schools, clubs and venues that make up our sporting grassroots.

This current free exhibition can be found in the DoubleTree by Hilton Milton Keynes Stadium MK and is open daily, all day and evenings, until 30 April.

Calling all film makers: commission of short film by Milton Keynes Heritage Partnership

Calling all film makers
Milton Keynes Heritage Partnership is searching for talented film makers to produce a short film that will showcase the work being done by the the Partnership.

Milton Keynes Heritage Partnership comprises Bletchley Park Trust, the Cowper and Newton Museum, the Living Archive, Milton Keynes Museum and Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre, in partnership with MK Council Heritage Service. The Partnership is helping its members all to work in a more joined-up, effective way so that they can serve their visitors and audiences better. The Partnership would like to let more people know about the work being done in this Partnership as it is so positive.
To express an interest in tendering for the opportunity to make this short film, please either:
  • contact Henk van Aswegen, Director of Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre henk@mkcdc.org.uk for the full brief for the project, or

Film makers should have some previous experience of making films of this type and be able to give good professional references.

The deadline for tenders is 5pm on Wednesday. 4th January 2012.

Not only will you be able to pick up beautiful gifts for friends and family, but there’ll be carolling throughout the day, arts & crafts activities for children, festive refreshments available and the nationally unique medieval chapel will be open to view too.

Remembrance services will take place on Sunday, 3 November 2011 across Milton Keynes.

These include: Wolverton Remembrance Day Service; Royal Naval Association Memorial Service in Bletchley; Royal British Legion Bletchley Branch Memorial Service; Royal British Legion Newport Pagnell Branch Memorial Service; Royal British Legion New Bradwell Branch Memorial Service; Stony Stratford Annual Service of Remembrance.

A new website for MKHA is now available at:

Features which have been added for the first time include:

  • a location map for MKHA members
  • a calendar of meetings and other MKHA member events
  • this blog of MKHA news.

 

In addition the results of a new MKHA project have been published:

  • transcriptions of the 1894 and 1895 Parish Magazine for North Bucks

Next MKHA Main Meeting: 29 November

The next MKHA Main Meeting will take place on Tuesday 29th November, 2011, 7.00pm for 7.30pm start, at the North Crawley Institute, High Street, North Crawley, Newport Pagnell, MK16 9LZ. It is not far from Junction 14 of the M1 and from looking on google maps, from MK it is the A422 to Newport Pagnell then onto a B road at the bottom of Tickford Street. I hope this helps you to find it and if you know places by pub names then it is opposite The Cock!

This is our last get together for the year so we shall have seasonal nibbles, etc.

The meeting is open to representatives from MKHA member groups.
