AD 43 Britain was invaded by the Roman Army. The majority of the country remained populated by the native Britons who adopted Roman culture and religion and mixed it with their own native Iron Age traditions.

Prior to the Roman era the hill top (Blue Bridge) had been the main focus of settlement. However things had changed and now the river valley below had become more inviting.
