12. Vicarage Road
Vicarage Road around 1900
This scene from Victorian/Edwardian times seems to suggest a back street in a tranquil market town. The tree-lined pavement gives an air of elegance and the foliage softens the hard surfaces of brick and stone. This street runs parallel to the High Street and was one of the first to be developed as the town began to expand.
Vicarage Road 2003
The modern view shows surprisingly little change. The trees are still there, though one building has been demolished to make a vehicle access and the chapel at the end has lost its turret.
