Russell Street, which leads into Vicarage Road, runs more or less parallel to the High Street. In this view from around 1900, Edwardian ladies stroll beneath leafy trees and along streets completely free of traffic.

As can be seen from the modern view, Russell Street has become yet another victim in the battle for the parking space. A new development (Antony Court) has emerged on the left-hand side, and just round the curve on the right-hand side stands Russell First School.
