The Friends of the Old Gaol Museum was formed in September
1991 to bring together the wide range of people who would like to support
and work with our local museum. The Museum receives no subsidy, all revenues
coming from admission charges, rental of premises, donations and subscriptions,
profits from the Cell shop and grants.
The Friends is an independent body which does its own
fund raising and organises its own meetings and activities, as well as supporting
those of the Buckingham Heritage Trust. Its aim is to support the Museum
in as many ways as possible.
The Friends:
-
supply volunteers who work in the Cell shop
-
act as stewards in the Museum
-
provide expertise to improve and extend the displays
both temporary and permanent.
-
help with the visits of schoolchildren
-
regularly update an exhibition stand promoting the museum
and take it to events and fairs held in and around Buckingham
-
distribute a newsletter three times a year reporting
on museum and Friends' activities
-
advertise in the local media
-
welcome new ideas!
