Jake's Russian Boots
A pair of handmade Russian boots, dating from just after World War I, are a recent acquisition given to the Old Gaol Museum by Michael Catlin. They were bought and used by his grandfather, Jake Watts. He was born in 1888 and lived to the ripe old age of 97 in North End Square in Buckingham.
What a story these Russian boots have to tell. The exhibition reveals how Jake and the British Army invaded Russia after World War I, dressed White Russians & Cossacks in British Army uniforms and, with the help of allies, held Siberia against the Bolsheviks in early 1919. See them, and many other interesting objects in the museum.
