Why is it called Dag Lane ?

It’s not the most attractive word you could think of.

The dictionary suggests ‘Dag’ : A dirt clotted lump of wool or a

16th century pistol. Sheep shearing or shooting - you take your pick.

The Old Rectory 1900

Built on a grass bank to prevent the flooding which had been the fate of

the previous rectory, which had occupied the same site.

The Old Rectory, which I suppose was called the New Rectory at the time

(if you get what I mean), was built in the 1880’s
