ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

We would like to thank Mr A Pemberton for reading the text and making many useful suggestions, and Mr A Clark for his untiring efforts on the word processor over many months.

A positive contribution was also made by a neighbour Mrs Mary McKee, who encouraged her class in Cedars Middle School to produce some of their current jingles,

We have made a chapter of these and we hope readers will note similarities and contrasts between the older and the more modern rhymes. Undoubtedly, the pop scene has influenced some of the modern jingles; advances in space technology are also reflected, not to mention the sophistication of Chinese restaurants. Our influences were sportsmen and women, aeroplanes and airships from Cardington, and teashops.
