North Front

The two wings of the original 3-storey Elizabethan House are seen (albeit with modified windows), to the left & right of this picture.

The Apex courtyard centre section was filled in by George Wright in the mid 18th century. This front is only two-storey and presents a Palladian style appearance: seven bays with simple central Doric porch with balustrade over. The first floor is in effect a tall “Piano Mobile” of sliding sash windows with alternating stone pediments above. A strong cornice line conceals a flat lead roof behind.

The mid 18th century addition originally contained the dining room on the ground floor and the ballroom on the first floor.
