Stoke Goldington Millennium Wall Hanging

The Borders

Flowers, Birds and Animals

The border is an integral part of the main canvas, ie it is not sewn on afterwards.

Along the top are local flowers, down the left and right hand sides are local birds and animals.

Our designer made coloured drawings for each of these 35 lozenges. The outline was traced onto 16 hpi canvas and each stitcher worked in DMC stranded cotton from a copy of the original.

These are only a sample of each type, but all the drawings for all the others are kept in the archives with the Stoke Goldington Association. They can be viewed by arrangement with the Secretary.

There is a full list at the bottom of the page.

We experimented to find the best way of stitching the lozenges to the border of the canvas, trying background colours and surround.

Sample Lozenge
Lozenges and Logos In the end, we had a terracotta surround for the birds, animals and flowers, whilst the symbols for the village societies had a dark green surround.
