John Kitchen jnr - Biographical Notes
Born 1963
Born in Bedford on 27. 8. 63 and moved to Sherington in the same year. Started work in 1979 at British Rail Engineering Ltd. (Wolverton Works) and served a four year apprenticeship as a Vehicle Builder. Some of his time was spent working on art projects for the company. John also had an input on the Virgin Pendulum high speed tilting train project but now spends most of his time working for the paint department. Incidents at work inspire John to draw unofficial cartoons. He never signs his name to the drawings for obvious reasons if it involved senior management. They were signed with a stick man and a date.
1991 John married Kerry and lived in Olney for seven years and has two daughters, Amy born in 1993 and Jo born in 1996. They then moved back to the family home in Sherington in 1997.
1993 John entered a competition entitled Record Breakers, held in aid of the Transport Trust. 100 paintings would be picked by a panel of judges such as Lord Gourie, Melvyn Bragg, Sebastian Coe, to mention a few and auctioned at Sotheby’s of New Bond Street, London on 27th Jan. 1994. John’s painting was selected and sold. John considers it a great privilege to have his painting displayed before the auction with paintings from famous names as Michael Turner, Frank Wootton and many more motoring and aviation artists.
His hobbies include designing, building and flying radio controlled model aircraft with The Sherington Model Flying Group for which he has a great passion, also tinkering with classic and vintage cars, and has a recent interest in mechanical wristwatches.
In the past John has done design work for various companies and publications. He enjoys painting scenes of the village when time permits.
Lately he has been experimenting with abstract work but does not think Sherington’s quite ready for that yet, and if John snr. was still alive he would certainly not have approved.
