SHERINGTON is a village, 2 miles from and in the hundred, union, and county court district of Newport Pagnell, diocese of Oxford, archdeaconry of Buckingham, and rural deanery ot Lathbury. The church, dedicated to St. Laud, has been recently restored; the chancel is very handsome, and contains a beautiful marble reredos. The living is a rectory, annual value £500, with residence, in the gift of the Bishop of Oxford. The Rev. Alexander King is the rector. The Wesleyans and Independents have each a chapel. There is a National school; William H. Rowell, master. The acreage is 1,760, of which the chief owners are Mrs. Higgens, Mrs. Umney, (lady of the manor) Colonel Chester, and Captain P. Fitzgerald. The population is about 700. The nearest money order, telegraph office, and post town is Newport Pagnell.
