SHS Meeting Minutes 18

Pump

Sherington H.S.

Meeting held at Sherington Village Hall on

Tuesday July 10th at 8pm.

A talk given by Alan Richardson.

Alan Richardson known by us all as the Olney Postcard Man' was greeted by aprox. 60 members & guests from Sherington. Alan also takes guided tours round Olney, & has spoken to many groups in this area.

The talk this evening was to be about Sherington's surrounding villages & how their lives have affected Sheringtons. Alan is the authority on North Bucks and his talk was as amusing as it 'was informative. His knowledge of how the villages were run how & their social life interacted with their next door neighbours, is legendary. His talk was illustrated by a great number of slides, all from the early 20 Century. Not one from Sherrington though, although he has many thousands of village pictures, not many of our village, in fact we now have many more of old Sherington, than he has. But Alan thoroughly enjoyed his visit to us, probably as much as we did his visit to us.

He also has an excellent voice, everyone was able to hear every word that he said.

He complimented SHS on the whole evening's show, as being one of the best probably because he met a number of old friends & had a nice cup of tea

Alan was contacted by some Sheringtonians after the event who stated how much they enjoyed his light-hearted talk, & be spoke to Norman later saying how much he enjoyed our company & would be willing to come again to talk on a different subject.

There was an excellent raffle, run as usual by Mike Tofts, which added to the enjoyment of the winners, and excellent tea & biscuits, supplied by the ladies in the kitchen.

Altogether an enjoyable & informative evening, that raised some cash for

SHS.

Norman.
