SHERINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY

COMMITTEE MEETING 27th Sept 2004, 7-30 pm.

33 Crofts End, Sherington

Present: Norman Arnold, Sheila Quinn, Pearl Teasdale and Mark Vale.

  1. Murder Booklet: SHS has received a letter from Ann Sheldon, and an order for a murder booklet. Ann maybe a distant relative of the Boon who was murdered. She will keep us informed of progress of her investigation into her family ancestors. The grave of James Boon although noted as being in Sherington graveyard, his relatives may have come from Lavendon.
  2. Film Show: The Peter Gardner film show for the 12th October will be shown with a film documentary taken in 1977. A raffle will be held Pearl and Norman will donate prizes. Anita, Kay and Enid will take care of refreshments.
  3. Sheringtonian: SHS has received a very sentimental E-mail from Malcom Skerman An old pupil of The C.of E. school and resident of Sherington in the 1950s. The letter will be made known to the members of SHS. Doris and Charles Stephens both remember him as a child and pupil.
  4. Email: A postcard has been obtained of an ariel view of Sherington church and surrounding village, dated 1962, from E-bay for £2-10. The address of the original company who took the picture was obtained and an enquiry about further pictures has been sent to them. Aero Films of Potters Bar. This company specialises in ariel photographs
  5. Christmas Cards: A great deal of discussion took place on these and the committee could not agree on the form they should take. Basic blank sheets have been sent to Enid for her to design.
  6. Christmas Bazaar: SHS has booked a table at this event on the 26th November (Friday) To sell Christmas Cards, notelets, and booklets and any other memorabilia that we may think fit .
  7. MK Raffle The Voltswagon Beetle Raffle slot has been booked for Tuesday 30th November 9am -1pm The tickets, in books of 10, will be available for members to take and sell to their friends.
  8. A Walk Around Sherington Phyllis's book is being scanned onto disc, by Mark. We have all the original documents, and much discussion took place about costs, type of binding etc. It would appear that as much of the work as possible should be done in house to keep the economics within reason.

Meeting closed at 9pm, with thanks to Pearl for her hospitality. Next committee meeting to be held at 24, School Lane, 7-30pm on 1st November. 2004
