IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DEAR HUSBAND, WILLIAM SHEPPARD,
DIED JAN 27TH 1918.
OH CRUEL DEATH, HOW COULD YOU BE SO UNKIND
TO TAKE HIM BEFORE AND LEAVE ME BEHIND.
YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN BOTH OF US IF EITHER
WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE PLEASANT TO THE SURVIVOR.

Description: "Road Surveyor. " Died on January 27th 1918 aged 71 years. Buried on January 30th 1918 in plot K-58 The body came from Towcester.  Source:- Ref. 2, Page 80, Number 1422.
