Western Front Association ~ Milton Keynes Branch
The Western Front Association is a national charitable association, register no. 298365, established in 1980, to further interest in the Great War 1914-18 and to perpetuate the memory of those of all sides who served in that War. It is not a re-enactment society, it is non-commercial and entirely non-political.
The Association publishes a journal, 'Stand To!', featuring research and review articles on Great War topics by members and others, as well as a regular Bulletin containing Association news. Full details can be found on its
Internet Site. The current UK annual adult membership fee, including both Stand To! and the Bulletin is just £20.00; young people under 18 and full time students, £11.00.The Milton Keynes branch, now in its second year, meets at the City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey, usually on the 3rd Friday of each month at 7.30pm but see our programme in the WFA on-line
Branch Events List for up to date details. Meetings are open to all, including non-members of the WFA, for a requested donation at the door of £2.00. We also run a raffle, with stunning prizes!Recent meetings have included talks by Geoffrey Blades: on "The Development of German Tactics 1914-1918" and by Dr John Bourne of Birmingham University on "Four Officers of the Great War", a presentation by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and displays of firearms and of trench art. We also organise mini-bus trips to places and events of interest.
Whether your own focus is 20th century history in general, the history of warfare or of the Great War in particular, battlefield tactics and weaponry, logistics and support, the War poets, or the home front, or family history [bearing in mind that few of us alive today are without an ancestor who served in the Great War, and some of those, sadly, gave their lives] the WFA may well have something to offer you. Why not come to one of our branch meetings to find out more? We look forward to seeing you!
