The launch and development of this site was one of a series of projects supported by the Resource: The Council for Museums, Archives & Libraries' I.T. Challenge Fund 2000 - 2001. Resource is now The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council
The aim of the project was to build a site to publicise the work of members of Milton Keynes Heritage Association and to make their collections more accessible to the public. At the conclusion of the project in March 2001, there was a general desire to continue the work and respond to the favourable comments made by site visitors from all over the world. The Association therefore put in a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a grant towards a project called MK Heritage Gateway, the focus of which was to carry on the work so successfully started in the I.T. Challenge Fund and also to bring to public access the heritage artefacts held by MKHA members which would otherwise rarely if ever see the light of day. The MK Heritage Gateway project, which ran from January 2002 to January 2003, included web pages, sound files, video clips and on-line databases, and made a massive addition to the range of information available on-site. See the News page for progress reports and updates. There is a special section of this site - The Jewels of Milton Keynes - which highlights key items in the collections of various MKHA members. It was also developed as part of the I.T. Challenge Fund project and subsequently extended as part of the Gateway project. The pages for the 'Heritage' and 'Jewels' sites were created by volunteers from the MKHA organisations, usually with no previous experience of web page design and working in their own time on training courses run at The Living Archive, Wolverton. Milton Keynes Heritage Association would like to record its thanks for their hard work. Contributors to current pages hosted on this site: |
