CD-Roms

There are a number of cd-roms available for the local and family historian.
The following are particularly useful.
  • New Towns Record 1946 - 1996 - This is a comprehensive record of the post-war new towns programme.  It is firstly an archive of what are widely considered to be the most important published documents relatin to new towns, and secondly, an assembly of numerous commissioned papers and interviews.
  • Vital Records Index British Isles - these cd's contain 5 million births, christenings and marriages taken from a partial collection of records in the British Isles dating from 1538 - 1888
  • Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914-1919 - Complete relational database of all 665,000 soldiers and 37,000 officers who died in the Great War.
  • 1881 British Census and National Index - This includes information on the following: England, Scotland, Wales, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and the Royal Navy.
  • MACH - Buckinghamshire - 1881 - (mapping and analysis of census households). Includes a gazetteer of the county with hundreds, ecclesiastical jurisdictions, registration districts, church names and hamlet names - all mappable.
