The Green Belt around the village, and other villages in the area, was under threat from large scale plans. In February 1969 a meeting was arranged to petition against the Third London Airport being sited at Silverstone, and later at Wing and Yardley Chase. The digging of gravel pits in the area was however approved as this would allow the workings to be flooded to alleviate the flooding that regularly happened in the area.
