Edith Lucas - Biographical Notes

Edith A Lucas was born in Simpson, Bucks, in 1871. Her father Israel or Isaiah, by 1881 was a widower and was born in Fenny Stratford

In 1881 Edith and her father were living with Edith’s maternal grandmother, Deborah Wilson, who was born in Soulbury in 1802 and was extremely deaf . They were living at No 94 the High St in Newport Pagnell, known as the Elms.

By 1891 Edith’s father had re-married, to Louisa and they were living in the Olney Road, Sherington, Edith is not recorded as living with them at that time. This was known as Baker’s farm, now Church farm.

Isaiah was recorded as farming 355 acres and employing 6 men and 4 boys, from their Newport address.

The latest dated painting by Edith, of the 12 that were bequeathed to the village is 1925.
